Comment by safetyfirstpdt on December 28, 2011 at 7:42pm Hi Jarlath! I'm in northern BC in Canada, and in the heart of our oilpatch. We are desperate for drivers here. The pay is extremely good (Usually starts around $90,000 Canadian) and the work is really interesting/fun. The drawback is long winters (winter is our busy season) and the amount of work (If you are a family man it can be tough) Great lifestyle here, good communities, and we are so in need they are starting a program to bring skilled workers in from other countries (I will have to get back to you with details)
It's not for everyone, but if it fits you it's an awesome job!

Comment by Jean Ouellet on November 20, 2011 at 1:29pm You should apply in canada, much easier! And for the Eats coast, you could get a job with SGT Transport.

Comment by Pat Hasler on August 14, 2011 at 8:45am Speaking from experience, You will not get a work permit by applying for a driving job in this country. Only highly skilled workers that are in short supply are even considered, such as nuclear researcher etc or doctor.
You need to get a work permit and residency (green card) first, on the good side I am informed that Irish citizens are given favourable treatment in such cases.
Then there is you licence ! ... European LGV licences are not recognised over here so you would need to take a retest before you can even consider applying for a job.
Good luck anyway.
