I've been advocating strike mandates for 25 years now. Rates go up and down like a yo-yo,, and we just sit there with our fingers up our noses, while everyone else makes money.

We have to shut Ontraio down for 3 days, Stop ALL deliveries.  nobody puts a key in an ignition, everyone gets the flu. Here's the deal! I'm more than willing to be the guy who goes to Toronto and stand in front of the Legislature or House or anyone else and tell them why we're striking. Fuel prices first off, taxes second, bad rates and the fuel surcharge ! Now THAT is a problem. Most companies keep a portion of that surcharge and lie that you're getting ALL of it...money they didn't earn, nor deserve! How much crap can we take, and still say "Driver....no one's gonna go for that...you're wasting your time". We have to stop it NOW, and move ahead. DEMAND decent pay, drop the idiot surcharge, and put US up where everyone else is. We work more hours, and get less pay. It's a no brainer. When was the last time you had a COLA? when was the last time your benefits were free. I want to see us be designated an "ESSENTIAL SERVICE". when the government does this it means that the service in question gets tax breaks and, perhaps incentives.....does anyone else think this way? We have a way to go, but need other passengers to climb onboard! Get back to Me and let Me know what you think!

It's the same everywhere you go, in Canad in the U.S but all we do is be lazy and let them walk all over us...some guys THINK they're mnaking money, but they aren't making up to potential. I"m all for shutting Ontario down and then moving the "movement" anyplace drivers need to be heard. I'm working toward a 3 day shutdown..anyone can do it as lonmg as they have commitment and drive enough to see it through

Going on strike for a minimum wage for truckers is a good start but I'd go a few steps further and demand hourly pay (with daily overtime) like it's done in Europe.  If the governing bodies and the ATA are so gung ho about regulating this industry to the max why not regulate fair pay?  And why would companies argue against hourly pay with all the electronic tattling devices in trucks today?  It's not like a driver can dog it now with such technology.

By the way...being designated an essential service is counter productive as it means you give up the right to strike.  Just ask any city police officer or fire fighter.

well i just say this a Strike is not the answer ,,we need to negotiate first ,,but before anyone will listen you have to clean this industry up ,,because if we dont respect our selves and keep throwing trash in the parking lots ,,trashing the bathrooms,, ect. well then we are the nasty dumbass drivers they pertray us to be ,,,and no one will take us seriously ,,

I"m now working on a P.A.C , a political action committee, so that we can at least have some grassroots incentive and a basis for all impending activity. This P.A.C will cover both countries and all actions pertaining to the trucking industry.

Everyone's goal should be one trucker a day, call in to xm radio, Road Dogs, spread the word. Everyone should call in, everyday, to every talk show, Joney's, Freewheelin, Even, Bozo, Tim, blast the airwaves.... that is if you are serious.

I just send 4 friends on facebook the link to join this site, I have more but not all have computers in their trucks, so I"ll call tomorrow... what is your goal, Just so you can track some their names are tom, robert, perry, Albert

Everyone should join any trucker blogs and refer them back here so we can get control of the group, Once we have a group unite under a set of goals, We should then contact every major group OOIDA i.e , news media, Tell them how we are and what we represent! Organize, Plan, Execute, Attack... it's a military idea but that's how elections are won! I posted a blog about what people think about trucking today, so far no one has commented on it... This is what I am talking about...Everyone Should have a plan to tell 2 other Drivers, and ask them to tell 2 Drivers each!, That's how we build! Now let's see how far this goes!

Comment by Michael P.Dorsey on December 7, 2011 at 7:36pm

I'll start it off...Pay- how should we get paid, by the mile or flat salary, Regulations- too much too little- hurting us or helping us, Parking- not enough HOS- how many is enough, Intervention by outside groups.... This is just a few...add to it and then we can get a plan of Action. Here's something; talk to every Driver you see and tell them to give you their email so we can get a list started, then do bulk emails to update everyone and keep the interest alive, have them join this website or join OOIDA. Action we need Action not talk. We have 500 members right here, everyone should contact them and get them active, The more people involved the better!
